Timberland Update

Very excited about the progress of Urban Waxx Timberland, our 5th beautiful salon open! We met with our new construction team (please see the pic that proves that we are all working very hard), and they are going to be such an easy group of guys to work with.

Again, my lovely Creative Director Lexi will be heading up all things beautiful about the interior

Opening a new salon ranks VERY high on my favorite things to do as a business owner. I love everything about it. The deadlines, the buzz, the excitement, and the new influx of guests and team members.

I cannot wait until we can show you! Looks like we will be opening in the first week or so of February!

Thanksgiving gratefuls!

For years we would close each meeting at Urban Waxx by going around the room and saying what each of us is grateful for. Recently, we decided that because there were so many of us, the grateful were really just taking WAY too long. However, Thanksgiving is all about what we are thankful and grateful about, so here are some of the things that the Urban Waxx is grateful for this holiday season:

I’m grateful for the abundance of love I have in my life from my chosen family, biological family, and the self love I invest in myself daily.- Mads

I am so grateful for this entire year. This has been the craziest, most hectic, intense, chaotic, scary, breathtaking, inspiring, fast, and fun year of my life. I turn 24 in January. Hopefully 24 is as fun as 23! Bring it on!-Hadasse

The essentials: Good health, a warm home, reliable car, and people who love me. Also, a job I love coming to everyday…due in part to my amazing clients! Thank you!- Beth

I am grateful for the health and happiness of my friends and family. I’m also very thankful for my new family at Urban Waxx Eugene! They’ve made me feel so welcome to the entire Urban Waxx family. Last but not least, I’m grateful for sweet potatoes (and pumpkin pie of course).- Cody

I’m grateful for good food, and good people on thanksgiving, and yoga for my sanity during the busy holiday season.- Heather

My family is split up between three states this year, so I wont get to be with them this Thanksgiving. I’m thankful for all of my wonderful friends who have volunteered to take me in for the holiday.- Krista

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! I’m grateful and blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life, I have some truly wonderful relationships. I’m grateful to have 2 happy healthy kids, and so lucky to have the partner I do. I’m grateful for my life experiences to appreciate where I’m at today. Happy Thanksgiving!-Kerry

I’m thankful for the time I get to spend with my westie and aussie. I’m also so grateful for my in-laws and all of their love and support. Oh and mashed potatoes! – Rebecca

I’m grateful for my family and all of the love and support I have from them, even though we live so far away from each other. I am also thankful that this will be a nice relaxing holiday. – Ashley

I’m thankful for my most awesomest family and my most awesomest dogs. And Dave Grohl (woo Foo Fighters!).-Sadie

I am grateful for my kooky family, at home and at UW! I am one lucky girl, to be surrounded by amazing and loving people!-Angie

After spending many years worrying about what everyone else thought of me I’m grateful for finally understanding the important things are: family, friends, doing what you love and being a kind person.-Mindy

2014 has been a crazy roller coaster and I am SO grateful for new beginnings and positive changes. Also I am always grateful for the 2 baby bosses in my life: Stella and Dino. And, very grateful for the love and support of my team!-Shannon

What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving? I know for a fact that everyone is VERY grateful for the continued support from our amazing guests! Have a wonderful, happy, healthy Thanksgiving.

Urban Waxx #5!

On to the next adventure! We just signed a lease on or 5th Urban Waxx location yesterday and we are so excited about it! We will be opening at the Timberland Town Center, which is a brand new shopping center in Portland. It is located on Barnes and 118th, close to Cedar Hills. I LOVE it there! As soon as my good friend Ken (he is opening an amazing sausagery in the same center called Clutch) told me about it and I checked out the space I knew it would be the perfect fit for us.

IMG_8233As you can see from my picture, it is not even done being built yet, which is super exciting for me! I love the idea of going into a completely raw space and making it look exactly how we want it to be. Our neighbors will be Barre 3, which we are SO happy about. In the center there will also be a giant Market of Choice, a Pharmaca, Ava Rosteria, and a whole bunch of other very chic, and local, businesses. I was very attracted to the location because they are really doing a lovely job of putting like minded businesses in the center, and I know it will be an amazing shopping/dining/service destination.

Urban Waxx could not continue to grow if it wasn’t for the continued love and support of our incredible guests. It is so humbling that there is so much support for this amazing journey.

I could never do this if I did not have the most fantastic, smart, creative, fearless, and loyal team of women in the entire world. To be a part of a group of 60 (and soon to be more) ladies who are so fantastic really is the most joyful experience that a Lady Boss can ever know. Thank you!

Shannon

Camp!

Last weekend, I went to Camp.

For those of you who know me, that idea may sound preposterous. I refer to myself as an “Indoor Girl.” I like nature a lot…from afar. However, my dear friend Jami Curl told me about a Camp for adults called The Unique Camp and I was intrigued. I signed up.

I knew very little about the actual camp before attending. The literature is beautiful, chic, and somewhat vague. I knew that we would be in the woods in Big Bear, CA. I knew that I would be with 200 other entrepreneurs, business owners, creatives, etc. I knew that I would be pushed way out of my comfort zone. All of those things were true.

The Unique Camp is the brainchild of Sonja Rasula, who owns The Unique Space in LA, and Christopher  Heynen. In a nutshell, it is a 4 day experience where you are phone and internet free (your counselor trades your phone for a Casio watch when you check in), and you are able to attend workshops from some pretty inspiring people. It is a chance for you to get out of your head a little bit and really get down to business. In my case, Camp helped me to crystalize what I needed to be focusing on, personally and professionally.

I also connected with people that I would never have met in a million years otherwise. In the process I met some people that I am certain will be lifelong friends. I also slept on the top bunk of a bunk bed, took hikes, participated in Improv classes, stargazed, stenciled a t-shirt, attended a silent dinner in the woods, got my mind blown, and laughed harder than I have in a long, long time.

It’s good to separate yourself from what comforts you. Sometimes those comforts are precisely what is making you uncomfortable.

Summer time!

Memorial Day signals the start of summer in Portland.

Ahhh summer in Portland…the most fleeting and delightful season in the Pacific Northwest. When warm days roll around in Portland suddenly all you see is bare legs, shorts and sandals. So, you know what that means? Waxx! Waxx!

When summer hits, we know that we will be seeing a lot of new guests at Urban Waxx. What does that mean for you? Well, tell your pals about us! When an existing guest tells a new guest about us, they each get a 15% referral discount of their service!

Also, if your schedule is tight and you need a specific time and day for your appointment, we always recommend pre-booking your appointment. You can easily book appointments for 3, 6, 8 months in advance! Then you can be certain that you are always waxed when you need it!

Of course, there is always online booking! Schedule online 24 hours a day whenever it is most convenient for you!

Have a great Memorial Day!
